Over and Under

A depiction of the Vanderbilt Cup Races held on Long Island in 1908. The roadway was the first paved road designed strictly for cars- “The Long Island Motor Parkway”. All cars and figures are custom made, as are the grounds, roadways and overpasses. Period costumes were made from masking tape folded in layers and hand painted. This diorama was created using 15 vintage photo’s taken at the actual event over 100 years ago. This diorama is currently on display at the Vanderbilt Museum in Centerport, L.I. N.Y. The wonderful close-up photographs were taken by Maryann Zakahevsky.
